OPPORTUNITY TO FISH THE EXCLUSIVE UPPER BLACKHALL BEAT ON THE RIVER DEE

ABERDEEN AND DISTRICT ANGLING ASSOCIATION (ADAA) MEMBERS OPPORTUNITY TO FISH THE EXCLUSIVE UPPER BLACKHALL BEAT ON THE RIVER DEE

I am pleased to announce another benefit of being a member of the Aberdeen and District Angling Association (ADAA)!

A Spring week’s fishing has generously been offered by the Proprietor for Association members to fish the exclusive Upper Blackhall beat on the River Dee from Monday 23 February to Saturday 28 February 2026.

Here is some background information on the beat:

Upper Blackhall Beat – River Dee

Located three miles west of Banchory on the south bank of the River Dee, Upper Blackhall is one of the most private and scenic beats on the river, renowned for its beauty and careful management. The beat extends for 1.5 miles and includes 15 named pools, providing excellent fishing under a variety of river conditions. Typically, fishing is limited to three rods, though a fourth may be allowed at the Ghillie’s discretion, depending on conditions. Dogs are welcome on the riverbank, provided they do not disturb the wildlife or the fishing.

Notable Pools Include:

· Morel Pool – A year-round holding pool; the only one not accessible by vehicle.

· Scobboch Pool – Located near the top hut, it fishes well in all water levels.

· Ferroch Pool – Opposite Cairnton, a highly productive stretch, especially in medium to low water.

· Grey Mare Pool – A large holding pool at the bottom of the beat that fishes well in all conditions.

The Association will have three rods available each day from Monday, 23rd February through to Saturday, 28th February inclusive. There will be no Ghillie present, but Management Committee member Angus Rutherford will be conducting regular inspections to ensure that everyone adheres to the proper etiquette and maintains the fishing huts in a clean and acceptable state.

To manage this at some point after 7am on 16 February the 3 rods for each day will be made live on the online booking system. The beat will also be added to the online catch returns/ unsuccessful salmon outings system.

For those successful prior to fishing they will be emailed further information about how to get there and a beat map detailing all the pools and the best heights to fish them.

Tight lines!
