A great initiative for our ADAA members
The ADAA in association with Mike Barrio of Haddo Trout Fishery are pleased to announce an agreement whereby the ADAA boat is currently made available for one 4 hour fishing session per Wednesday. Members are asked to indicate at what approx time they would like to start fishing when they make their booking all for the special price of £5.00 per angler, yes, £5.00.
The agreement is based on a 4 hour C&R fishing session, but should you wish to keep any fish for eating, these can be purchased at the end of your session at the rate of £2.00 per lb. ( the weight of your fish or bag will be rounded down to the nearest ½ lb ) Fishing at Haddo is subject to the following general rules
We think this is a great opportunity for Association members to fish one of the best fisheries in the North East, excellently managed by Mike Barrio.
How do I book a boat for a Wednesday?
Simply phone Mike on (07810) 868897 , confirm you are an ADAA member, quote your membership number and agree the date and session i.e. morning or afternoon. You will not be able to book more than one session at a time and we will monitor if any miss- use of this initiative is being made. You may have to share the boat with another fisherman, but I'm sure that is no problem.
About Haddo
Haddo Trout Fishery opened in May 2002. The loch has gained a good reputation in the North East of Scotland and is the ideal location for a great day's fly fishing. The fishery covers just over five acres and is stocked regularly with premium quality trout that are grown locally. Surrounded by mixed woodland, this is a peaceful, scenic and sheltered loch, often described locally as the “Wild at heart” fishery.
The loch has a great deal of insect life inviting classic fly fishing with dry fly and imitative nymphs. This is a great place for fishing lightweight tackle and a #3 to 5wt fly rod with a floating line will serve you well in most conditions. Try damsels, spiders, bloodworm, diawl bach, hare's ear, black pennell, bibio, sedge, corixa, shrimp and buzzers.
The current rainbow trout record at the fishery is held by Wullie Milligan from Kirriemuir, with a 31 inch beauty which weighed 16 lbs 14 oz. This was caught on a size 14 Pearly Spider in September 2005 . The largest wild brown trout to be caught at the fishery was estimated to be 4 lb 8 oz and was released by Jim McHattie from Macduff. Kevin Neri from Ellon holds the record for the most trout caught and released in a four hour fishing session … Kevin released forty!

HOW TO GET TO HADDO TROUT FISHERY?
The easiest way to get to the fishery is to go to Oldmeldrum and take the Turriff / Banff road, as you leave Oldmeldrum turn right at the "Meldrum House Gateway" roundabout on to the Methlick / Fraserburgh road ( B9170 ).
About half way to Methlick you will come to an open, long bend which forms a junction with the Tarves road ( B999 ). On either side of the junction you will see a "Haddo Trout Fishery" sign and find an entrance to the layby that would have once been the old road. The fishery is in the woods behind this. Turn in to the layby and then drive down the track beside the gatehouse for about fifty yards where you will find a parking area beside the lake.
You can now follow the footpath round the lake to the fishery hut and the boats.
Please note that the folk living at the gatehouse do not have any connection with the fishery.
