The River Dee

Despite the rain last week ( end of May 2008) and the river rising, the River Dee Salmon Fishery Board has just completed installing a fish pass on the River Coy at Crathes.

The work was carried out by Deeside Construction as part of the LIFE project and means that for the first time in nearly 200 years salmon and sea trout will be able to gain access to the Coy.

The first a view of the pass on the left of the weir and the second of the internal baffles which help the fish to run up such a steep gradient.

Work has also just started on the remaining two obstructions on the Dye and these should be completed in the next couple of weeks.

This will be a useful new spawning ground for salmon and sea trout and perhaps in 5 years time we may hope to se 80 salmon or so using this to access the spawning grounds.
