ADAA Catch Return Information

Letter to the ADAA Membership

Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act – Legal Requirements.

The above Act became law at the beginning of this year and this means that all fishery proprietors must supply their District Salmon Fishery Board with details of their catches when called upon up to twice a year.

The River Boards covered by our waters have informed us that they will be calling for detailed catch information and because of this you will understand that it will be necessary for us to take steps to put in place a system where we can collect catch details speedily and effectively.

To enable us to comply with the law we have set up an answer phone system whereby members must phone in with their catch details within 48 hours of making the catch.   This system will be the only way to record catches until the 1st of June by which time we would expect that catch details can also be given to a new computer programme that is in process of being written.    As soon as the programme is up and running notification will be posted on the Association’s Website.

To set up the systems necessary has been very costly and the committee felt that to make full use of the computer programme it would make sense to ask for returns of all types of fish caught and not just the migratory fish.    As you will understand getting catch returns of Rainbow and Brown Trout will greatly assist our future stocking programme.

Due to the serious implications to the Association if we do not make accurate returns the committee stress that every member must adhere to the system laid down and that the current return records to be handed in when renewing membership next year must be maintained.    It will be expected that the catch returns recorded during the year will match the annual return made when renewing membership in 2008.

A letter is being sent out to all members that shows the full details of what members must do to record their catches.

Yours Sincerely
